My work balances between representation and abstraction, drawing inspiration from the natural world while seeking something beyond it.

I call these more intuitive paintings Soulscapes — landscapes from within, shaped not only by observation and sketching in my surroundings  but more recently by play, memory and feeling. Light and colour have always been central to my practice, yet I increasingly allow intuition to guide me. This shift towards painting from the heart has opened up a more fluid and expressive language — one that carries both roots and wings.

I trained for four years at Edinburgh College of Art, where I gained  both the discipline and joy of drawing and had a wonderful studio space to experiment with paint in. I was awarded a scholarship term at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Strasbourg in my third year and finally graduated with a BA Hons in Drawing and Painting in 1989.

My married name is Kate Sporborg and my studio is at our home near Newmarket, Suffolk, where I live with my husband William, our two children, and a myriad of animals.

Please do feel free to get in contact with me if you would like any further information via the Contact Kate page.

My painting are in private and corporate collections throughout the UK as well as USA, Hong Kong, and Australia.

I am represented by Cricket Fine Art, who have galleries in Chelsea and Hungerford and by Kevis House Gallery in the centre of Petworth. They would be delighted to welcome you if you can visit
